i'm in the process of compiling a 2010 summer reading list.
no, i'm not in high school anymore & don't have to read an annoying amount & selection of books over the summer for the next school year that will ultimately (97.6% of the time) be a fruitless exertion of energy because you either talk about those summer books for 2 whole minutes in class or you're given a huge test compiled with anything from meaningless multiple choice questions that expect you to recall what Jane Doe's brother's fiance's stepbrother's name was in that one chapter all the way to those free response questions that are intended to challenge you to dig into the farthest reaches of your mind to formulate some sort of transcendent philosophy on the underlying meaning of the entire novel...neither of which i was entirely fond of...ok not fond of at all, but it would be silly of me to have any kind of built up aggression about these sorts of trivial things like high school summer reading lists, so it's a dang good thing i'm more mature than that...(???) but now, i can choose my own reading list, sooo...bring on the books baby!
so far this is what i've got...
walden
harry potter series
ugly series
the guernsey literary & potato peel pie society
the blind side
the historian
& this is what i'm looking for...
some sort of awesome biography or autobiography.
{i know there are some amazing people out there with great life stories to tell & i just need to know where to start... i've unfortunately learned that just because a man or woman has led a great life, doesn't mean they know how to put it to paper & make it good literature...heavens tamurgatroid.}
Have you read the percy jackson series? those are light and fun. also, i haven't read "The Help" yet but i have heard its really good!
ReplyDeleteHere are some of my favorite biographies...maybe not your style but explore if you dare:
ReplyDeleteTruman - one of my favorite books ever, 1200 pages but seriously couldn't put it down
Go Forward with Faith - President Hinckley's biography, really really good and the reason Hinckley is named Hinckley
My American Journey - Colin Powell autobiography, also very good and I heard him speak once and he really is very cool
Elder Maxwell's biography also very inspiring.
I am looking for a good one on Nelson Mandella or Martin Luther King, Jr...though anything on him is good...civil rights kick I suppose.
"Killer Angels" won the Pulitzer Prize and it is both exciting and emotionally charged so you would like that. It is a novel about the key players at Gettysburg and its awesome.
